Open Source Software

Open source is a collective term for software that is available as a source text and provided with licenses. It gives end users the freedom to use programs for any purpose, to study the content and structure of the sources, to modify the sources and to further distribute the original as well as the modified version.
The number of open source licensing types is legion, and there are many open source organisations that have and maintain open source software, provide it for download and write the corresponding licenses. These include, for example, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and the Open Source Initiative (OSI).

Because of its transparency, open source offers a great deal of security. We contribute to open source by providing feedback from numerous customer projects, writing bug fixes, releasing employees from work for open source developments and sponsoring individuals and organisations.
Our company is deliberately and deeply involved in open source. As a member of “Swiss Open Systems User Group” /ch/open, we are also actively engaged in the executive committee of this association.

Particularly interesting is the fact that not only have applications come from open source projects but also several important development tools, such as compilers and interpreters for different languages, debuggers for trouble-shooting, Java runtime environments, and many more.
Important results of our development work are continually incorporated into various open source projects, which we then also use in the development of new products and customer applications.
This way, all the developers and companies involved in an open source project benefit from a mutual exchange of know-how, which can be used for concrete customer projects.
